Although her memorial gives her birth year as 1841, is was more likely 1844 according to census records. In early records she is listed as Rachel Ann. Her parents, Samuel Petty and Mary Eleanor Powers were married in 1843.

Anna was married three times:
1)Rachel Ann Petty to James Doolittle on Feb. 29, 1864 in Mahaska County, Iowa
Children with James Doolittle: Willard (possibly a step-son), Sherman, Alminta (Minnie), Fredrick and James M. Doolittle.
2)Anna Doolittle to Samuel H. Sutton on Jan. 29, 1875 in Polk County, Iowa
Child with Samuel Sutton: Della (Dolly)Sutton
3) Listed as a widow in the 1880 census, she was presumably married to Henry Sumpter sometime between 1880 and 1885 as she was listed with him in the 1885 Nebraska census.
