Cleat C. Acord

Cleat C. Acord, 93, of Beckley, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Cleat was born June 10, 1911, at Bolt. He was the son of the late John M. Acord and Della Callaway Acord.

Mr. Acord was an Army veteran of World War II.

His wife of 52 years, Helen M. Snuffer Acord; sisters, Ollie Richmond, Laura Curtis and infant sisters Minnie and Ivory; brothers, Lacy Acord, Ira Acord, Ward Acord, Clayton Acord and Walter Acord; grandson, Louis Shieler; and a great-granddaughter, Bobbie Lynn Jordan, preceded Mr. Acord in death.

Those left to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are his two sons, Gary Acord and wife, Juel, of Red Star and Frank Acord and his wife, Beverly, of Maple Fork; three daughters, Janet Bowen and her husband, Richard, of Marietta, Ohio, Kathy Bell and her husband, Chris, of Dayton, Ohio, and Susan McGinnis of Beckley; a sister, Hattie Jennings of Oak Grove; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Robert Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
