Funeral services were held Saturday, September 2, 1978 at the First Christian Church of Caruthersville for Dr. Charles Floyd Cain, 76, a prominent Caruthersville physician. Rev. Bill King conducted the services.
Dr. Cain was born in Hornbeak, Tennessee August 16, 1903, and died August 31, 1978 in the Pemiscot Memorial Medical Center in Hayti.
He was the son of the late Henry Wilson and Myrtle Cain, and had lived in this area since he was a small child. Dr. Cain attended Caruthersville High School and was a graduate Chamber of Commerce. In 1972 he received the Chamber's Award for "Outstanding Leadership in the Field of Professionals."
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Cain, of Caruthersville, two sons: Charles Floyd Cain, Jr., of Cape Girardeau and Dennis R.H. Cain, of Caruthersville; three daughters, Mrs. Teresa Cain Haynes of Caruthersville; Mrs. Suzanne Plush of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Bernice Crow of Kennett; three brothers: Dennis Cain of Caruthersville; Hoyt Cain of Caruthersville and Henry W. Cain Jr., of Hayti; two grandsons, David Plush of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Steven Crow of Kennett; five granddaughters: Victoria and Courtney Haynes of Caruthersville, Kathy, Karen and Cheryl Crow of Kennett.
Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Robert Bizzle, Jerry Redwine, Charles Malin, Don Kellams, D.J. Meredith, Jr., Billy Simmons, Jack Woodson, and Ralph Bizzle.

Dr. Charles Floyd Cain M.D., Caruthersville's oldest member of the medical profession, died Thursday afternoon, at the Pemiscot Memorial Medical Center in Hayti. He was 75 years old, celebrating a birthday on August 16th.
He was the eldest of five sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Cain of this city. He was born August 16, 1903, in Hornbeak, Tenn. The family moved to the McCarty community where Dr. Cain attended school there before the family moved to the Teroy Farm about a mile south of Caruthersville. He completed his education in Caruthersville Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1922.
Dr. Cain attended William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., two years and then moved to Missouri University, Columbia where he did his premedical work before transferring to St. Louis University in St. Louis for his medical degree. He did his intern work in St. Louis Hospital. He also had his own office and practices after hours and on holidays.
He moved back to Caruthersville about 1936 following the death of Dr. T.J. Collins and took over his practice in offices over Sawyers Pharmacy.
