Mr. Cain was born in Steele on August 2, 1909, the son of Henry W. Cain of this city and the late Mrs. Myrtle Cain. The family moved to Caruthersville when he was seven years of age and he attended the local schools, graduating from high school in the class of 1927. Later he attended the Caruthersville Junior College for two years.
In this city, on June 3, 1938, he was married to the former Miss Jean Clendinning of McComb, Miss. and they have lived here since, with the exception of a few years during World War II.
For many years a member of the Natonal Guard, he was inducted into the U.S. Army with Company B of the 140th Infantry on December 23 1940 and received a discharge, with the rank of captain, on April 9, 1944, at O'Reilly Hospital in Springfield, Mo. He was a member of the First Christian Church and of American Legion Post No. 88.
In addition to his wife and father, of this city, he leaves four brothers, C.F. Cain, Dennis Cain and Holt Cain of Caruthersville and H.W. Cain Jr., of near Hayti, also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Christian Church, with the Rev. J.L. Sennett officiating. Burial was in Maple cemetery, with H.S. Smith service.
