Bernadine O. Pavlicek, age 85 of West, formerly of Tours, passed away Sunday evening, April 13, 2003 in West Rest Haven.

Rosary was recited 10 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Martin’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Martin’s Cemetery at Tours.

Mrs. Pavlicek was born May 13, 1917 at Tours, one of seven children, to Joseph and Katherine Berger. She cared for her father who continued to live with her after her marriage to Albin Pavlicek on January 8, 1946. Her father preceded her in death in May 1953. She spent most her life working and living on the farm. Besides working in the fields, she cooked and maintained the household, sewed and patched clothes and pieced quilts. After Albin’s death in June 1969, in a tractor-related accident, she went to work cooking in the cafeteria in West Elementary School, where she worked until her retirement. She loved to cook and did so for many wedding receptions and funeral dinners in Tours and the surrounding communities. Mrs. Pavlicek was an active member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church and served on the church council for a number of years. She was also member of St. Martin’s Altar Society for many years, and assisted with the care and cleaning of the church. Mrs. Pavlicek also supported the church by working each year at the annual picnic held at Tours Hall. She was a very gentle and kindhearted person.

Mrs. Pavlicek is survived by two sons, Larry Pavlicek and wife Lana of Fairview, Texas and Alvin (Bud) Pavlicek of Tours; a daughter, Catherine Spurlock and husband Jim of DeSoto; a sister, Dora Cheves and husband Jack of Dallas; three grandchildren, Tina Pavlicek of Glendale, California, John Spurlock and Meghan Spurlock, both of DeSoto.

Active Pallbearers were John Spurlock, Wesley Filer, Eugene Pustejovsky, Emil Pustejovsky Jr., James Pavlicek Jr. and Jerry Enders.

Visitation was from 6 pm until 8 pm Tuesday at Kotch Funeral Home.
The family has designated memorial to be made to St. Martin’s CCE program.

Kotch Funeral Home of West was in charge of arrangements.
