Almond “Al” Lewis, Jr., age 76, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. He was born on October 31, 1930, in Harrison County, Kentucky, the son of Almond Lewis, Sr., and Mae Wilson Lewis. He grew up in Kentucky, where he enjoyed hunting in his younger days. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served overseas in Japan and Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Following his discharge, he made his home in Independence, Missouri, where he was employed briefly at Westinghouse before beginning his employment at Allis-Chalmers, where he worked for 30 plus years, retiring as a supervisor in July 1991. On May 28, 1983, he was united in marriage to Joan Daigh at Greenfield, Missouri. After Al’s retirement, they moved near Warsaw.

Al was baptized at Beaver Baptist Church in Cynthiana, Kentucky, and was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, where he belonged to the Joy Sunday School Class and Friendship Club. He was a member of Gideon’s International and past member of the Eagle’s Club. He was an avid fisherman and a fan of college basketball, especially the Kentucky Wildcats, Mizzou Tigers and Warsaw Wildcats.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Parker Lewis and Russell Lewis, who died in infancy; two sisters, Lucy Lenox and Anna Elizabeth Muntz. Surviving are: his wife, Joan Lewis; one son, Brian Lewis, and wife, Vickie, of Liberty, Missouri; a daughter, Cynthia Ann Reding, and husband, Michael, of Liberty; three step-children, Jon Mosier, of Coppell, Texas, Kirt Mosier, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Kristin Mosier, of Salida, Colorado; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Bell, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Agnes Boyles, of Paris, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.

Funeral services for Al Lewis were held Friday, May 11, at the First United Methodist Church, with Cliff Saupe and Rev. Duward Scott officiating. Burial was in Pennsboro Cemetery, near South Greenfield, Missouri. Memorials may be made to: the Benton County Cancer Fund; or Gideon’s International, in care of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.
