LITTLE BOY ACCIDENTLY KILLED. GILBERT SLAUGH SHOT BY DISCHARGE OF GUN IN HANDS OF HIS BROTHER.

One of the most deplorable accidents that has ever happened in this community has cost the life of an innocent little child and caused sorrow and gloom to sadden another wise happy home and make Christmas an unforgotten anniversary of despair for a young boy, just entering into manhood.

On Monday morning Gilbert, the five year old son of Isaac Slaugh was killed by the accidental discharge of a rifle in the hands of his brother Fred, aged sixteen years.

It seems that on Monday morning Fred went out to kill a chicken for dinner. His intention was to shoot the chicken with a 22 caliber rifle which he carried. His little brother Gilbert, was following close behind him. The chicken ran and Fred tried to "head it off." He threw the gun across his arm with the hammer set at safety. The lock of the gun was defective so that the hammer slipped and discharged the cartridge. The bullet struck Gilbert in the head just behind the right temple and ranged back and entered the brain just above the ear. He ran to the house and dropped unconscious at his mothers feet. Aftr receiving the wound the little fellow lived four hours, but did not gain consciousness during that time.

The funeral was held from the family residence on Wednesday. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the stricken family and the doubly stricken boy who so unwittingly snuffed our the life of his beloved brother.
