Funeral Services Conducted for Fredrick E. Slaugh.

JENSEN -- Funeral services were held in the Jensen Ward chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m. for Fredrick Elias Slaugh, 59, who passed away in a Salt Lake City hospital Saturday, January 1 at 1:45 a.m. after a short illness.

Bishop Warren F. Billings was in charge. Prayer at the home was offered by George C. Davis, Songs were "Whispering Hope" and "In The Garden" sung by Carwin Snow, accompanied by Margaret Caldwell and "Going Home" was sung by Ezma Goodrich and Leah Simper, accompanied by Mrs. Hyrum Slaugh of Davis Ward.

A violin solo "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Margaret Caldwell accompanied by Mrs. Mary Slaugh. Speakers were Archie Johnson and Jessie Haws with closing remarks by Bisop Billings. Invocation was offered by Hyrum Slaugh and the benediction by William Gardiner.

Pallbearers were Percy, Fritz and Guy Stewart, Monroe Hatch, Ralph Hodgkinson and Wilbur Bingham.

Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Vernal Mortuary. The grave was dedicated by Ben Slaugh.

Alta Stewart and Ruth Haslem had charge of the flowers.

Mr. Slaugh was born June 30, 1895 in Davis Ward, a son of Isaac Ivory and Ellen Johnson Slaugh. His early boyhood was spent on a farm there assisting his parents.

At the age of 18 his father passed away leaving him the head of the family, to care for his mother and six children.

In the year 1919 he married Martha Jane Greenhow and to this couple seven children were born.

His early married life was spent around Dragon at the gilsonite mines later returning to Davis Ward he was engaged in farming for a number of years. He later moved to a ranch in Uintah Canyon then to the Quality Dairy in Vernal, where he became very well known among the people of the city.

In 1940 he purchased a farm in Jensen and engaged in livestock raising.

In the year 1943 at the birth of his youngest child his beloved wife was taken away. Again leaving him the responsibility of the entire family.

He married Sarah Peterson in 1945 and in the same year obtained employment at the oil refinery where he worked until three weeks prior to his death.

Mr. Slaugh was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Survivors include his widow, his mother, Ella Slaugh, and the following sons and daughters, LaDell and Jimmy Slaugh, Jensen; Dee Slaugh, Vale, Oregon; Clyde J. Slaugh, Casper, Wyoming; Perry Slaugh and Fay Kaligren, Rangely. One son preceded him in death.

Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters: Angus Slaugh, Vernal; Wallace E. Slaugh, Orderville; Henry Slaugh, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Emma Smuin and Mrs. Idell Smuin, Vernal and Mrs. Wilda Allen, Orem.

Out-of town visiters attending the funeral were: Mrs. Ella Slaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Allen and daughter Darlene, Orem; Wallace Slaugh and son Gene, Orderville; Victor Nelson, Pleasant Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Slaugh and son Glen, Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Alexander, Roosevelt; Mr. and Mrs. Milburn Slaugh, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Dee Slaugh and twin children, Bobby and Patty, Vale, Oregon; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Slaugh, Casper, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kalgren and daughter, Nancy and Mr. and Mrs. Perry Slaugh from Rangely.
