In Memory of Pete (my mother-in-law)


Virginia Lee Austin passed away on April 14, 2011, at the Dardanelle Nursing Center, Dandanelle, AR, after a long illness.


Virginia was born March 29, 1919 in Henderson Co, TN, the daughter of James Robert McCormick and Flossie Ann McCall McCormick.


She was united in marriage to Conley Fay Austin on April 20, 1940 in Blytheville, Arkansas.


She was preceded in death by her parents, J. R. and Flossie McCormick; her husband, Fay Austin, her son, Edward Lee Austin; sisters, Mildred McCormick Wicker and Mary Pauline McCormick Hrabovsky; two brothers, Edward McCormick and Neal McCormick; one great-grandson, Christopher Stephen Austin; and one nephew, Tommy Hrabovsky.


Virginia is survived by her sons, Jim Austin and wife Rebecca of Olathe, Kansas and Dr. Nathan Austin of Russellville, Arkansas; and one sister, Bonnie Nell Lewis of Springfield, Missouri; two grandsons, James Nathan Austin and Michael Lee Austin; four granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Austin, Nichole Austin-Puhr, Keely Austin, and Laila James. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews.


Virginia was manager of the Blytheville Federal Credit Union for many years, retiring in 1981. After retirement she kept busy volunteering at her church and as a volunteer tax preparer for IRS. She accepted the Lord at an early age and was a longtime member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church, where she taught adult Bible class for many years. She was a gracious and generous friend to everyone and was deeply loved by her family and friends.


A celebration of her life will be held in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville, AR, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 with Mr. Billy Holifield officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home.


Pete, was my mother-in-law and we had a great relationship. She was a wonderful grandmother.
