Mr. Conley Fay Austin, a lifelong resident of Blytheville, died Wednesday, May 31, 1989, at the Mississippi County Hospital at the age of 71.


A retired minister and businessman, he was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion.


He leaves his wife, Mrs. Virginia Lee (McCormick) Austin; two sons, James Lafayette (J. L.) Austin and Dr. Nathaniel Fay (Nathan) Austin; one sister, Mrs. Seminole Gordon; and six grandchildren, James Nathan Austin, Michael Lee Austin, Jennifer Lynn Austin, Allison Nicole Austin, Keely Rochelle Austin, Natalie Alyssa Austin; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Austin, Ryan Evan Austin and Aaron Michael Austin.


Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, at 1:30 p.m., at the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ron Mosler officiated and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.


He was preceded in death by his parents; Stephen Lafayette Austin and Cora Myrtle (Keith) Austin; an infant son, Edward Lee Austin; and an infant great-grandson, Christopher Stephen Austin.


One of 10 children, he and only 3 others reached adulthood; 2 brothers, Donnie Dale "Pat" Austin and William Larkin (Bill) Austin and one sister, Seminole Avon (Austin) Gordon.


Fay and Virginia Lee "Pete" McCormick were on April 20, 1940, in Blytheville, Arkansas.


Fay was my father-in-law and he was a wonderful grandfather.
