John William Mattingly, 65, retired distillery employee, died of a heart attack, at 7:20 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at his residence at New Hope. He had been ill two years. Mr. Mattingly had been employed with the Athertonville Distillery. A native of Larue County, he was the son of the late George Thomas and Maggie Sudie Holtshouser Mattingly. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Church, at New Hope. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Alethia Nevitt Mattingly; a daughter, Mrs. James Daniel (Jean Lois) O'Bryan, who flew here from Madrid, Spain, where her husband has been serving with the U. S. Air Force, and where the family was in process of moving to Germany on new assignment; one son, Joseph Kenneth Mattingly, of New Hope; three sisters, Mrs. Bernard Woods and Mrs. Tava Lucas, both of New Hope, and Mrs. Ada Mattingly, of Bardstown; two brothers, Bernard Mattingly, St. Francis, and Artie Mattingly, New Hope; also six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Vincent dePaul Church, with Rev. Anthony Howard celebrant of the Requiem Mass. Interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Bernard Woods, Wilson Lucas, Clyde, Bunk, Marty and Cleveland Mattingly, all nephews. The body was at Mattingly Funeral Home, at Loretto."
