Lawrence A Barnett was the fifth child of six children born to Laurence A Barnett and Hattie Elva Smith. He enlisted in the Army in 1933. He trained in both Georgia and Texas. He served in Europe with the Second Division, 9th Infantry, Company M. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other badges and ribbons for his service. He was killed in action in La Carriere, France in 1944, which is located in Normandy. His funeral was held on May 1, 1948.
