BAXTER Funeral services for Ernest Glen Burgess, 69, of Baxter, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday,Dec. 8, from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes and Cremation Services.
There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 7, and an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery with full military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 1-8
p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 7, and after 8 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Burgess died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 10, 1939, in Putnam County to the late Willie B. and Mary Ellen Scarlett Burgess.

Mr. Burgess was an Army and Air Force veteran and a member of the National Guard.

He was a member of the Tanne Hill Masonic Lodge 133 F&AM in Gainesboro, where he was serving as Worshipful Master
and held other offices. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star 152, serving as past patron, chaplain and other offices. He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Burgess was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Mr. Burgess was a retired maintenance supervisor with Bentley Harris and served as a Baxter City police officer and chief, Cookeville City policeman and was a reserve deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff's
Office.

His family includes his wife of 29 years, Glenda Knight Burgess of Baxter (whom he married May 26,1979); a daughter, Sheila Franklin of Rickman and her fiancé Roy Brown; a sister and brother-ilaw, Mary and Paul Scott of Westland, Mich.; two granddaughters, Shawna Franklin and Kacie Franklin and her friend Quinten Hamby, all of Cookeville; his mother-in-law,Sarah Knight of Cookeville; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law,Lula and Cecil Knight of Cookeville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law,Michael and Dorothy Knight of Cookeville; a special cousin,Eveleen Vinson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Machniak.
