Deceased Name: SIDNEY LANIER WRAY
Mr. Sidney Lanier Wray, 78, of Greensboro, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Alamance Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wray was born in Guilford County to Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. and Sallie Highfill Wray. He was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church, where he was a former deacon. He helped to organize the Alamance Volunteer Fire Department, was Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Alamance Volunteer Fire Department and he enjoyed his farm and his cattle. Mr. Wray retired from the Guilford County Sheriffs Department as a Captain. He was a veteran of World War II where he served for 39 months with the 15th Air Force Division of the U.S. Army with service in southern Italy.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Gray Atchison Wray, of the home; sons, Sidney L. Wray, Jr. and his wife, Patsy, of Julian, David A. Wray and his wife, Catherine, of Climax and Philip L. Wray and his wife, Beth, of Liberty; sisters, Nezzie W. McCauley, Joy W. Jarvis and Peggy W. McClellan, all of Greensboro; brother, J.B. "Ham" Wray of Greensboro; and grandchildren, Emily Wray, Taylor Wray, Lindsay Wray, Daniel Wray, Brett Wray and Brook Wray. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David K. Wray, William B. Wray, Albert A. Wray and sisters, Martha Williamson, Sallie Lou Wray and Emily Von Cannon.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alamance Presbyterian Church, 4000 Presbyterian Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27406.
