MRS. FLORA DIES FOLLOWING LIGHT STROKE TUESDAY
MELBOURNE---(Special)---Mrs. Matilda Flora, long time resident of the Melbourne community, died Tuesday at a State Center nursing home. She had been in failing health for some time and the immediate cause of her death was a light stroke which she suffered earlier in the day.
SERVICES WILL be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Melbourne Methodist Church and burial will be in Melbourne Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 23, 1879 at Baxter, the daughter of Frederick and Charlotte Petermeier. She was married in 1901 to Arthur G. Flora and they farmed in the Melbourne vicinity until his death in 1938. Since then she had made her home in town.
SURVIVING ARE five children, Glen Flora of Grand Island, Neb.; Ira D. Flora of State Center, Mrs. Estella Strock of Mason City, and Velma, who teaches in Waterloo.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, a great grandchild, two brothers and five sisters. They are William Petermeier and Mrs. Minnie Wilsterman of Melbourne, Charles Petermeier of Tama, Mrs. Louisa Polhamus of Eau Claire, Wis.; Mrs. Charlotte Polhamus of Newton, Mrs. Mary Steinberger of Baxter and Mrs. Lena McMahon of Marshalltown. Four brothers preceded her in death.
The Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
