He married Caroline A. Schnathorst, daughter of Carl Friedrich Wilhelm and Charlotte Shuttz Schnathorst. They raised seven children on their farm just east of Baxter: John, Ann, Nora, Clarence, Lela, Ida and Doris.
In failing health for some time, Fred had been a patient at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown for five weeks before his death there on Tuesday evening, Aug. 24, 1943.
A widower, he was survived by five daughters and two sons. Mrs. Petermeier in 1935 and an infant son Paul in 1910 preceded Fred in death.
Rites for 75-year-old Fred were set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Baxter Congregational Church, pending arrival of daughter Doris Noyer from New York.
