Son of John GILES by his wife Sarah GRAY. Cordwainer in Tavistock, 1795; received into the Methodist Church by Rev Mr PADDON, Old Tabernacle, Plymouth; recruited by Dr COKE for the Methodist Medical Mission in Sierra Leone, March-August 1796; convert to the Baptists in Devonport, by Rev Isiah BIRT, late 1796; Baptist Pastor in Dartmouth, 1797; Lymington, February 1809; briefly at Wantage, 1817; Pastor at Clover Lane Chapel, Chatham, December 1817; a preacher for the Irish Baptist Society, 1832; supply preacher at Preston, Lancashire, from May 1832, and Pastor there, February 1833; Pastor, Ashton-under-Lyne Church, 1842.
William was married at Tavistock, 23 March 1794, to Elizabeth PIKE.

1. Mary Eliza GILES, baptised at Tavistock, 15 January 1795; she died at Princes Park, Liverpool, 30 April 1884; she was married, at St Mary's, Chatham, 4 June 1821, to Joseph James GODFREY; with issue.
4. (Elizabeth) Mary GILES, born at Dartmouth, 1801; she was married in London, 1835, to Thomas Nicholas GRAY, a Widower.
5. John GILES, born at Dartmouth, February 1805; he died there, March 1805, aged 2 years 1 month.
7. Martha Pike GILES, born at Dartmouth, about 1805; died at West Derby, Lancashire, 1867; she was married at St Mary's, Haggerston, 5 October 1847, to Thomas PARKER, of Jamaica.
