Walter C. Caldwell January 8, 1895 – May 11, 1964 (aged 69)
Walter C. Caldwell, 69, retired carpenter and a lifetime resident of Montgomery County was found dead this morning at his home, 4 miles northeast of Independence. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Caldwell had been ill for the past several years.
Funeral arrangements are pending, but will be announced by the Potts Funeral Home.
Mr. Caldwell, son of Flora (Stanley) and Calvin Carlyle Caldwell, was born in this community on January 8, 1895. His marriage to Iva L. Stephens of this city took place at Sedan on December 21, 1914.
Surviving with the widow of the home are five sons and five daughters, Carl Caldwell, Irving, Tex., Charles Caldwell, Cherryvale, Robert Caldwell, Richardson, Tex., Mrs. Cary (Emma) Bockover, Chanute, Mrs. Eugene (Patty) Hoge, San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Robert (Mary Jane) Hannigan, Hutchinson, James Caldwell, Mrs. Roy (Elva) Andres and Mrs. Don (Edna Mae) Bennett of Independence and Jerry Caldwell of the home.
Additional survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Alva Kelly of this city and Mrs. Effie Bennett, Cherryvale. Thirty-one grand-children and 15 great grandchildren also survive.
Preceding Mr. Caldwell in death were his parents and two infant sons.
A carpenter prior to his retirement, Mr. Caldwell was employed by Brewster Bros, more than 20 years. He had been employed by the contractors during the construction of many business structures in Independence including the Citizens National and Professional buildings.
