James Robert Clayton (aka J.R.) was a School Teacher and a Methodist Preacher

Rev. James Robert Clayton died at the home of his daughter in Granville
September 3, age 88 yrs., 1 month & 9 days. He was the son of the late
Willie & Sarah Gallaher Clayton.
He was married to Miss Hattie McCaleb who preceded him in death 13 years.
Rev. Clayton was a retired minister of the Methodist Church. He had made his
home for the past 13 years with his daughter, Mrs. Syd Duke in Granville.
Survivors are 8 daughters & a son, Carter Clayton of CA, Mrs. Lou White of
Durant, OK, Mrs. Lena Fisher, Manchester, TN, Mrs. Syd Duke, Granville, TN,
Mrs. Beatrice Rogers, Mrs. Beulah Sechler, & Mrs. Ina Askew of MI, Mrs.
Inell Anderson of KY & Mrs. Irene Carr of AZ, 1 brother, Rev. C. W. Clayton
of KS.
Funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Granville Methodist Church with
Rev. B. M. Flowers & Rev. C. A. Stephens officiating. Burial in Smellage
Cemetery near Boma, Putnam County. Sutton Funeral Home in charge.
