Mrs. Duke was dead on arrival at Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro on Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999.
She was born on Feb. 4, 1903, in Putnam County to the late J. R. and Hattie McCaleb Clayton. Mrs. Duke was a retired school teacher with the Tennessee public schools. She was a member of the Granville United Methodist Church and the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association. She was married to Sidney C. Duke, who died on Sept. 6, 1967.
Her family includes two sons, Sidney Eugene Duke of Granville and Winfred Duke of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Irene Carr of Tucson, Ariz., and Ina Askew of Detroit, Mich.; six grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Hunt, and three sisters, Inell Anderson, Beatrice Rogers, and Beulah Secular
