He was awarded the Cross of Military Service on June 3, 1909 for service as Private, Company H, Mounted Riflemen, 9th Texas Cavalry.
He was the son of Samuel W. Price and Margaret Miller Price.
On August 23, 1867 as J.M. Price, he married M.H. Baird at Lamar County, Texas.
They were the parents of nine children.

J.M. Price, for many years a well known resident of Lamar County died at 5 o'clock Sunday evening in the hospital at Terrell, where he had been taken for treatment. He was stricken with paralysis at his home south of Paris a year ago and had never got over the effects of it.
He was eighty-three years of age and was one of the oldest citizens of Lamar County, he having lived here nearly all of his life, which was spent in the same neighborhood near Glory. He was born in Missouri in 1828 and came here with his father, Sam O. Price in 1839. He was the eldest of five children, the others being Mrs. J. W. Williams (deceased), Mrs. John Williams of Gordon, W.O. Price of Commerce and Sam W. Price (deceased). He volunteered in the Confederate army at the age of 23 and served until the close of the war.
Shortly after returning from the army he married Miss Mary Henrietta Biard, daughter of J.G. Biard, a pioneer settler. He is survived by his wife and the following children; W.S. Price, Mrs. J.D. Skidmore and G.H. Price of Glory; Mrs. Harry Smith of Biardstown, I.R. Price of Fort Worth, Mrs. O.J. Deweese, Glory, O.J. Price, Biardstown, Mrs. W.R. Jones, Howland and G.R. Price of Paris. The remains arrived yesterday afternoon over the Texas Midland and were carried to the Rodgers Wade undertaking chapel, where the funeral service will be held at 10:30 o'clock this morning. The burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
