MALAD, Idaho - Ervin LeRoy Allen, 69, of 290 W. 5th North, Malad, died Friday, Jan. 2 in the Oneida County Hospital of a heart attack.
He was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Portage, Utah. He was the son of Isaac William and Francis Letitia Gibbs Allen. He attended schools in Portage and graduated from Bear River High School in Tremonton. He also served in the Army during World War II.
He married Josephine Colton on March 31, 1936, in Malad. That marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on March 17, 1965.
He lived most of his life in Malad. He was a grade foreman for the Marion J. Hess Construction Co. for 20 years. For the past 19 years, he has owned and operated the Ervin L. Allen Construction Co.
He is an elder in the LDS Church. He served for eight years on the Malad City Council. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He is a member of the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65. He was also a member of the Malad Bowling League.
He is survived by his wife of Malad; and one son, Gary M. Allen of Malad and one daughter, Colleen Anderson of Malad; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Duggan Allen of Ogden, Gibbs Allen, Portage; two sisters, Mrs. Wilford (Vera) Dredge of Fruit Heights and Mrs. Jay (Cleopha) Stewart, Bountiful.
Funeral services will be held Monday at noon in the Malad LDS Third Ward Chapel with Bishop Marvin Hess officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad or Monday prior to the service.
Interment in the Malad City cemetery.
