All of his children (plus his wife and himself), moved to Michigan after the close of the Civil War (1865) from upstate western NY following the trend set by the 6th Warner generation before him. While the children (Charles' uncles and aunts) of his grandfather, David-5 Calvin Warner, Sr. moved to the southern Michigan areas of Branch, Hillsdale, Calhoun, and Oakland counties, Charles Calvin's children (to a great extent) settled in Wheatfield Twp., near Williamston and Lansing, Ingham, MI. Some moved to Kent County, MI, first, but migrated a bit eastward within a few years after they learned of the good land available for farming purposes.
CIVIL WAR veteran: Charles enlisted in Co. I, NY, August 6, 1863. He was in the battles of Lookout Mountain, Buzzard's Roost, Atlanta, and Crab Orchard. He was taken prisoner at Libby Prison for 30 days, then sent to Columbus, OH. He was discharged on account of disability in June 1864.
Charles died in his farm home on Noble Road in Wheatfield Twp., Ingham, MI. His grandson, John C. Warner, told his own son, Russell, how he "remembered being 'carried down the road to his grandfather's house and being held up so he could see the old gentleman lying on his bed.' While only three years old at the time, John's memory was strong, linked to the fact he was given, at this time, a pair of copper-toed boots for his very own."
