LARSON, GEORGE A. SR., 83, of Hernando, died Friday (May 17, 2002) in Hernando. Born in Armstrong, Iowa, he came here in 1978 from Marietta, Ga. He was a member of Howard Hughes' personal staff for 26 years, owned Larson Aircraft Service, worked for American Airlines and Douglas Aircraft Co. and was a Navy veteran of World War II, and Korea. He was a member of Experimental Aircraft Association, American Legion Post 400, Disabled American Veterans Post 70, Inverness, and Shangri-La Reunion Association. He received his pilot license in 1939, built his own plane in 1970 and spent time with Citrus High School students in the 1980s advocating and promoting aviation. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Doris; two sons, George "Chip," Denver, and Merwyn, Emmaus, Pa; three daughters, Barbara Davis, Pacific Palisades, Calif., Judy Larson, Emmaus, and Susan Peters, Pensacola; a brother, Gordon, LaPort, Ind.; two sisters, Alyce Peterson, Armstrong, Iowa, and Helen Crosley, Albany; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
