Erwin F. Froemming was born in Leaf Valley, Minnesota on July 14, 1908, the son of Albert and Bertha (Schoeneck) Froemming. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the Ebenezer Lutheran church and in 1927 moved to Fergus Falls. Erwin attended the Park Region College and worked at Minnesota Motors in Fergus Falls. He moved to Alexandria in 1937 and worked as a piano technician. On April 4, 1942, Erwin was united in marriage to Selma Schmidt at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley. Erwin played the trumpet and saxophone and also the guitar on which he gave lessons. He played in many bands starting at the age of 14 in Nelson. He once played the trumpet in a band directed by John Phillip Sousa in Fergus Falls. Erwin also enjoyed fishing, basketball, and painting.
He died January 23, 1991, at the Hennepin County Medical Center at the age of 82 years. Erwin is survived by wife: Selma Froemming of Alexandria; daughter: Judy Webber of Minneapolis; brother: Erhard Froemming of Nelson; sisters: Frances Kuehl of Moorhead; Irene Borchert of Alexandria and Luella Woessner of Alexandria. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, sister Adella, and brothers Albert, Eddie, Walter and Alfred.
Funeral services were January 28, 1991 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Stephen Bruening officiating. Entombment was in Kinkead Cemetery Mausoleum, Alexandria, Minnesota. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
