James was a son of Preston Hall & Louisa Caroline Hall.

James Hall, 84-year-old Spanish-American War veteran and a resident of Pike County for the past 20 years, died at 8:30 A.M. Saturday in Portsmouth General Hospital where he had been taken Thursday. He had been in ill health for a year.
He was born in Floyd County, Kentucky on April 12, 1872, the son of Preston and Caroline Sturgell Hall.
He moved to Pike County from Magoffin County, Kentucky, and has resided in the Wakefield neighborhood since then on Piketon, Route 1.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall, at home; five sons, Preston of Detroit, Michigan, Arcus Hall of Waverly, Route 2, David of Wakefield; Lee Hall of Piketon and Charles Hall of Dayton; six daughters, Mrs. Sam Pendleton and Mrs. Bruce Conley, both of Piketon, Route 1, Mrs. Marion Conley of Wheelersburg, Kentucky, Mrs. Josie Miller and Mrs. Walter Cutlip, Jr., both of Dayton and Mrs. Charles Ledford of Jackson, Michigan: 36 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Walter Butcher of Kermit, West Virginia.
Mr. Hall was a member of the Portsmouth Enterprise Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Tuesday at the Wakefield Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Colliver and Rev. Bruce Gullett officiating. Burial followed in Mound Cemetery at Piketon under the direction of the Howe Company Funeral Home.
