Olen Mack Addington, 78, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory after a sudden illness. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a resident of Amory for more than 40 years. He attended Oak Hill and Smithville schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was an employee of the City of Amory, retiring in 1985 after 28 years. He was a Baptist and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed sporting events.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Haughton Memorial Park Cemetery in Amory.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Pope Addington, whom he married in 1950; two daughters, Rebecca King and husband, Jimmy, of Madison and Vicki Pickle and husband, David, of Amory; a brother, Deck Addington of Smithville; two sisters, Velda Hetland of Amory and Bernice Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Amanda Young, Jesse King and Zac Pickle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie Addington and Leanna Kennedy Addington; three brothers, John Addington, Arthur Addington and Dow Addington; and two sisters, Wonnie Plunkett and Zora Mae Hughes.

Family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
