Chester Earl Ross was the 1st of 5 children born to Charles Bassett Ross and Ora Ellen Reynolds. Earl married Margaret Myrtle Martin, the daughter of Lergan Virginia Fearno and Thomas Benton Martin, on Nov 9, 1913 in Coolidge, Hamilton County, Kansas. Earl operated grocery stores in the Hamilton County communities of Coolidge and Syracuse, and then purchased the grocery store/post office in Kendall, Kansas in 1927. Margaret served as postmaster at Kendall, operating the post office through the store. Earl was active in civic affairs and politics, having the honor of introducing President Franklin Roosevelt during a campaign stop in 1938. They had five sons: Robert, Sigel, Ernest, Keith and Glenn. Earl and Margaret celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1963 and lived out the rest of their lives in Holly, Colorado.
