Charles Bassett Ross was the 3rd of 4 children of William Ross and Lydia Levina Yerian. He lived with his parents in Crawford Co., Kansas in 1870, and in Jewell Co., Kansas in 1880. He married 1st Ora Ellen Reynolds, daughter of Ann Caroline Taylor and Henry Gordon Reynolds, on August 9, 1887 in Atwood, Rawlins Co., Kansas. In 1900 they and 3 children lived at Erving, Jewell Co., Kansas. They moved to Coolidge, Hamilton Co., Kansas, before 1908. Charles farmed and worked as a building contractor. He built a schoolhouse south of Holly, Colorado, and their family house south of Coolidge, which was demolished by a tornado in 1913. By 1920 they lived in Lamar, Prowers Co., Colorado.
He married 2nd Mary Ann "Mayme" Martin, daughter of Lergan Virginia Fearno and Thomas Benton Martin. They appear in the 1930 census of Jacumba, San Diego Co., California. He was a carpenter on the state highway system. They moved to Woodlake in 1947.
