Our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully with his family at his side, at the Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center, December 21, 2004, at the age of 93.

Vernile was born on August 3, 1911, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to William Shelley and Helena Christensen Shelley.

He married Vera Stone on July 22, 1935, in the Manti Temple and together they are parents of 5 children.

Vernile worked as a rock and coal miner and then as a dairy farmer.

He loved hunting and fishing. He was a gold medal champion in horseshoes.

As a couple they enjoyed square dancing.

He was an avid reader.

Vernile was always active in the LDS Church. He served as bishop of the Mt. Pleasant 2nd Ward, in the High Council for many years, and other positions.

He and Vera served in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana mission, and for many years as Ordinance Workers in the Manti and Provo temples.

Vernile is survived by his wife, Vera, children, Janet (Gean) Lindsey, Provo, Karen Shelley, Roosevelt, Dwight (Betty) Shelley, Springville, Merilyn (Jim) Carver, Cedar City, Gwen (Paul) Hafen, Saratoga Springs, 35 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and also his siblings, Pearl Shelley, Bessie Mower, Fern Turpin, John, Levi, Leslie and Elmer, his son, Norman Shelley and a grand daughter, Julie Gurule and 3 infant grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held December 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Sharon Park 14th Ward Chapel, 310 North 100 East, Orem.

Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and Monday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.

Interment will take place at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

We express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the loving care given him by the staff of Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center.
