Vera Myrtle Stone Shelley

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully at the Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, January 31, 2007, at the age of 88.

Vera was born March 5,1918, in Chapin, Idaho, to James Fredrick Stone and Minerva Caroline Smith Stone.

She married Hyrum Vernile Shelley on July 22, 1935, in the Manti Temple and together they are the parents of 5 children.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and fulfilled various callings and responsibilities.

She served as a Relief Society President, teacher, Visiting Teacher and as a teacher in both Primary and the Young Women's organizations.

She served in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Mission with her husband Vernile.

They served as ordinance workers in the Manti and Provo Temples for many years.

Vera was a talented seamstress making beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren.

She also enjoyed making and hand quilting many quilts and crocheting many, many afghans.

She blessed the lives of many people as she generously gave them away.

She loved flowers and gardening.

She was always industrious keeping busy even when it was difficult for her to get around.

Vera is survived by her children, Janet (Gean) Lindsay, Karen Shelley, Dwight (Betty) Shelley, Merilyn (James) Carver, Gwen (Paul) Hafen, 35 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Oral Stone, Ruby and LeVar Burnside, Dwight and Zelda Stone, Elmer Stone, Delmar Stone, Arthur Wells, her husband, Vernile, a son, Norman, granddaughter, Julie Gurule and 3 infant grandchildren.

We express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the loving care given her by the staff of the Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. February 5, 2007, in the Sharon Park 14th Ward Chapel, 310 North 100 East, Orem.

Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and from 8:45-9:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.

Interment will take place at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
