He graduated from Crescent City High School in 1936 and later joined the US Marines and served his country during World War II. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for action at Iwo Jima.

He worked as a rural mail carrier in Palatka for many years. After his retirement from the US Postal Service, he worked as a building contractor and electrician. He served on the town council and as mayor.

OBITUARY

Robert Clester Middleton, Sr., 85, passed away following a short illness Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Putnam Community Medical Center.

Mr. Middleton was born and lived in Pomona Park his entire life. He graduated from Crescent City High School in 1936. He later joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during World War II. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for action at Iwo Jima.

Mr. Middleton worked as a rural mail carrier in Palatka for many years. After his retirement from the postal service he worked as a building contractor and electrician. He enjoyed membership with Lake Lodge No. 72 F&A.M.; Morocco Temple Shrine and Crescent City Shrine Club; B.P.O.E. No. 1232; Loyal Order of the Moose #1641 and Pilgrim Congregational Church of Pomona Park.

He is survived by his wife: Loretta, Pomona Park; sons: Robert Jr. (Carolyn), Pomona Park; Billy, Crescent City; Ricky (Jackie), Pomona Park; Ronnie, Atlanta, Ga.; daughter: Carolyn (Lloyd) Stone, Seville; brothers: Downing Middleton, New Fairfield, Conn.; Cokey Middleton, Pomona Park; Allen Spencer Middleton, Leesburg; Alonzo Middleton, Pomona Park; sister: Martha Newton, Pomona Park; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

At the family's request those who wish may make contributions to the memorial fund at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, P.O. Box 309, Pomona Park, FL 32181.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 1 at Clayton Frank & Biggs Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Pomona Park. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery in Crescent City. Arrangements are under the direction of Clayton Frank & Biggs Funeral Home
