Cynthia Elizabeth Soule Durfee, wife of James Durfee, the younger brother of Edmund Durfee who was killed by a mob in Morley Settlement on 15th November 1845, was born 15 February 1801 in Broadalbin, Fulton, New York. She was married to James Durfee at this place, date unknown, according to histories written by Louise Durfee Rooney, who has filed with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers an article, Graves Along the Trail.

Cynthia Durfee was the mother of nineteen children. They made their home near Perrysburg, Wayne, Ohio, where 14 of their children were born. They joined the restored church of the Latter-days and moved to Far West, Caldwell, Missouri. Their fifteen child, Sarah, was born here 31st December 1839, after the expulsion of the Saints from Missouri.

James and Cynthia settled in the little town of Yelrome, later named Morley Settlement, in honor of Isaac Morley, who was made the president of Lima Branch or Stake in which the town was situated. Eight of their children are listed on the Lima Branch records after it was organized 22 October 1840. Their names are Clarissa, 14; Laura, 12; Anna, 11; Alzina, 8, Joseph, 7; Mary, 4; Benjamin, 5; and Sarah. Their twins, James Devine and Cynthia Elizabeth, were born to them on 8 October 1840.
