Married (Lydia) Jane Shaw 8 May 1845 in Hancock county Illinois. [FHL 0954177.] (Note: Her obituaries incorrectly give the place as Lima, Illinois.)

Stephen Durfee is listed in the "Membership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1830 - 1848" as "child," birthdate 29 December 1819. His presumed parents are listed with the other Durfee family members. They are James and Cynthia Elizabeth (Soule) Durfee.

James Durfee's entry into said membership includes the following information: James' parents were Perry and Anna (Salsbury) Durfee. He was born in Fulton county New York and died in Lima, Adams county Illinois. He had lived in Caldwell county Missouri and in Kirtland Ohio. He was ordained an Elder and a Priest in the LDS church.

A letter testamentary from the will (and probate) of Stephen Durfee gives his date of death as 28 December 1880, in Adams county IL. It is signed by his wife and the executrix of his will, Lydia Durfee. His obituary gives the date as 23 December, 1880.

The Quincy Daily Whig, Friday, December 24, 1880; page 8.

Stephen Durfee died at his residence, 167 North Seventh street, last evening. He was an old and highly respected citizen, having resided in Quincy since 1847. He leaves a wife and four children. His funeral will take place on Sunday. Mr. Durfee was nearly 61 years of age.

Additional: His daughter, Mary, is in the 1860 census with Adam and Clara Kinaman. Mary moved to Seattle Washington where she died (unmarried), 27 January, 1915. She was buried in Seattle 29 January 1915. [Source: Her obituary and other articles.]
