Lawrence M. Wangen was born July 15, 1914, the son of Hans and Mary Wangen, in Petersburg, where he grew up and attended area schools. He married Cathern Evensizer March 1946 in Grafton, N.D. They farmed near Petersburg and moved into town in 1973.
Survivors are his wife; son Robert, Petersburg; daughter Susan (Mrs. Greg) Baker, Gresham, Ore.; four grandchildren; brother, Joe, Grand Forks; and sister Alyce (Mrs. Brooks) McMillan, Larimore, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hans and Osborne; and his sisters, Anna, LuGena and Lucille.
