James D. Bobbitts Greeted At Anniversary Celebration
Mr. and Mrs. James D. Bobbitt, widely known residents of San Bernardino, celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage by holding open house at their home, 471 25th St., Sunday, Nov. 16. Guests were welcomed from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9, arriving in groups throughout the afternoon and evening.
The Bobbitt were married on Nov. 13, 1902 in Lynchburg, O., and resided in Ohio until 1923, when they came to California and settled in San Bernardino. Mr. Bobbitt became a partner in the mortuary firm of Stephens & Bobbitt and members of the family immediately identified themselves with the religious, social and civi life of the community.
MASONIC LEADER
Mr. Bobbitt is a Mason, member of the Knights Templar, Al Malikah Shrine, Gate City Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of which he is a past worthy matron, and San Gorgonio Shrine of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, which he has served as watchman of the shepherds. He also is a past president of the San Bernardino Kiwanis Club.
Mrs. Bobbitt, the former Lulu Oester, is a past worthy matron of an Eastern Star Chapter in Lynchburg, O., and continued her activities in the Order in Gate City Chapter. She also is a member of the White Shrine. The Bobbitt are active members of the First Christian Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobbitt have two children, a daughter, Miss Louise Bobbitt, who makes her home with them, and a son, J. Russell Bobbitt, who resides at 3371 Broadmoor Blvd., and is associated in business with his father. There are three grandchildren, J. Russell Jr., Gary and Kristine Bobbitt.
Beautiful flowers, mostly in the golden tones, adorned the Bobbitt home for the anniversary celebration. On the credenza stood a large arrangement of white chrysanthemums, surrounding a doll bride and bridegroom, the "bride" wearing a dress made from heirloom lace, more than 100 years old. This decoration, created by Lewis Shipley, was used first for the reception given the Bobbitt at a meeting of the White Shrine.
FRIENDS ASSIST
Mrs. Elsa F. Duncanson, a neighbor of the Bobbitt when they all resided in Ohio, presided at the punch bowl during the affair, and Mrs. Chris Weber of Houston, Tex., whose husband and Mrs. Bobbitt were high school classmates in Ohio, poured the coffee. These beverages were served with slices of golden anniversary cake. Mrs. J. Russell Bobbitt assisted in serving and Miss Louise Bobbitt greeted the guests at the door and asked them to sign the guest book, and Mrs,. Bobbitt's nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. John Bridges, also assisted.
Several old Ohio friends and relatives came from distant places to greet the couple. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. J. Bega Cramton, now of Inglewood; Mrs. Anna Knapp of Temple City, who is Mrs. Bobbit's cousin; Mrs. Salome Montgomery Roush, a niece of Mr. Bobbitt; Mrs. Frances Stamp and daughter, Mrs. Max Stiles, of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rough of Temple City; and Mrs. Stella Troth Kennedy of Oakland. Mr. and Mrs. William Schuch of San Bernardino also were in the company of former Ohio residents greeting the couple.

Mrs. Lulu H. Bobbitt, 86, of 471 W. 25th St., San Bernardino, died Tuesday in a San Bernardino hospital.
She was the mother of San Bernardino funeral director J. Russell Bobbitt, and had lived in the city 40 years.
She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Lynchburg, Ohio, member of the Gate City Order of Eastern Star in San Bernardino and the San Gorgonio White Shrine in San Bernardino. She was a member of the First Christian Church of San Bernardino, and a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was the widow of the late James D. Bobbitt.
Survivors include a son, J. Russell Bobbitt of San Bernardino;
a daughter, Miss Frances Louise Bobbitt of San Bernardino;
a sister, Mrs. Carrie Wright of Middletown, Ohio;
three grandchildren, J. Russell Bobbitt Jr., Gary M. Bobbitt and Kristine Ann Bobbitt, all of San Bernardino;
and three great-grandchildren, of San Bernardino.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Stephens & Bobbitt Funeral Chapel.
