Jefferson City Post Tribune, July 31, 1966:

Fred C. (Fritz) Markway, 72, died Saturday evening at the family home in Wardsville. He had been in failing health for two years. Mr. Markway was born Jan. 15, 1894, at Wardsville, the son of Fred and Catherine Schnieders Markway. He was married Nov. 25, 1924 at Wardsville, to the former Miss Leona Prenger, who survives.

Mr. Markway was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, and of the Holy Name Society.

Other survivors include: five sons, Harold Markway, Jefferson City, Charles Markway, of the home, William Markway, Westphalia, Lawrence and Fred Markway, both of Route 4; one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Veit, Jefferson City, and 13 granchildren. Two brothers, Ben S. Markway and Joseph Markway, both of Jefferson City; four sisters, Mrs. Roy Stockman and Mrs. Leo DeBroeck, both of Wardsville, Mrs. Louis Mehmert and Mrs. Jacob Kolb, both of Jefferson City.

The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. today and Monday at a local funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Charles Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
