Leona T. Markway, 91, Wardsville, died Wednesday at capital Region Medical Center-Still Campus.
She was born Dec. 31, 1903, in Wardsville, a daughter of Ben and Dorthea Schwaller Prenger. She was married Nov. 25, 1924, in Wardsville, to Frederick C. Markway, who died July 30, 1966. A homemaker, she was active in quilt making. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Ladies Sodality and the over 50 Club.
Survivors include: five sons, Charles H. Markway, Lawrence E. Markway and Fred L. Markway, all of Wardsville, Harold F. Markway, Jefferson City, and William A. Markway, Westphalia; one daughter, Lillian M. Veit, Wardsville; one brother, George Prenger, Jefferson City; three sisters, Irene Kliethermes and Stella Schrimpf, both of Jefferson City, and Alline Utyro, Superior, Wis.; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Wardsville. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Dulle Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Stanislaus Education Foundation Inc. or to a charity of the donor's choice."
