Polly was the sixth child of Joseph and Sarah Vaughn McCracken who were pioneer settlers in the Upper Crabtree Community of Haywood County, NC. She married John Rogers in 1824, and they had eleven children. She was said to be a worker, always busy doing something. She had little to say, but when she spoke, it has been said the words came quick and pointed. She was a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church.
