First son and eldest child of Arthur Fox Ogden and Lorella Jane Trisler Ogden. Grew up in Nicholas county, KY. Attended Transylvania Univ. in Lexington, KY. Attended Bible School afterwards. Appointed to position as missionary to Tibet in 1905, and with wife Minnie Asbury Ogden, traveled to that country. Three children born in Tibet, but two died as infants (Bertha Marie Ogden b. Nov. 1906 and died before end of year, buried Tachienlu, Tibet (China), and James Clarence Ogden, Jr. b. June 1910 at Batang, Tibet (China) and died in Jan. 1911 at Batang, Tibet and buried there. A daughter, Clara Ruth Ogden was born on 27 Mar 1909 at Batang, Tibet (China) and was healthy. While home on furlough in early 1912, a son Walter Harold (Harold W.) Ogden was b. on 1 Febr. in Los Angeles, CA. Returned to Tibet in 1913 and served several terms of duty until illness forced his return to the United States in 1929 where he died in August. Served 24 years in the work of missionary for the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in a land that was very primitive but proved fruitful in the harvest for God through Jesus Christ with many conversions and baptisms.
