Janet Cotita Nunnari
September 20, 1909 ~ February 5, 2009

Janet Cotita Nunnari, "Mama Nunnari", 99, passed away at home February 5, 2009 with her two daughters by her side. She was born in Bay St. Louis, MS, however has been a resident of Pensacola since 1910. Janet was the second youngest of 12 children born to John & Maria St. Angelo Cotita, all of whom have predeceased her as well as her devoted husband of 68 years, Leo Aloysius Nunnari. She was a devout Catholic and a life long member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where she took an active part for many years. To cherish her memory she leaves her daughters, Rose Marie (Gordon) Tyrrell and Jeanne (Charlie) Osburn; grandchildren, Gary Croft, Brian (Amy) Osburn, Regina Davis, Craig (Heather) Osburn, Karen Storozuk, Douglas (Sonia) Osburn and Amy Oreskovich; step-grandchildren, Kay Richie, Jan Reilly, and Steven (Karen) Tyrrell; great-grandchildren, Megan, Brandon, Joshua, Amanda, Rachael, Miranda, Madison, Sarah, Brianna, Lauren, Christopher, Elena, Brooke, Haley, Ryan, April, Shelby, Gracie, Zack and Sophia; great-great-grandchildren, Layla, Kyler and Leo; and very special nieces and nephews, many dear friends and three spoiled cats. Through the years Mama became well known for her gift of cooking and creating not only delicious Italian but many varied dishes which became her trademark at "Mama Nunnari's" Restaurant. After her retirement, she continued with her talent in providing wonderful meals for her family and friends until a day before her recent hospitalization. There was never a time she did not have something to eat for anyone that happened to drop by her home. Mother was indeed a remarkable lady that belied her age. She had a sharp mind, and kept up with both local and national news, offering her opinion about what should be done about the happenings in our world today. Nana was a blessing not only to her family but to every one who knew her. Her love for her God, her family and friends was always evident, and she will be remembered for having a lifetime of loving, caring and sharing. The family would like to express our gratitude for the love and excellent care given her by Covenant Hospice, Drs. Daniel Doty, Darrell Pugh, Frank Messina, the Pastoral Staff at Sacred Heart Hospital and the nurses and aides at Sacred Heart Cardiac Unit. Visitation will be held 5:30-7:30pm Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rosary to be prayed at 5:15pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00pm Monday, February 9, 2009 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Peter McLaughlin celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Croft, Brian Osburn, Craig Osburn, Douglas Osburn, Kevin Davis and Brandon Richie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504 or a charity of choice. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
