Son of Aquilla Carvel Pritchard and Martha Jane (Weatherly) Pritchard. James A was probably born in Lauderdale Co. AL. and was one of 14 children. James A and three other brothers fought in the Civil War.
James A married 1st: Sarah E. Hayes Oct 7, 1858 in Osceola, St. Clair Co., MO. To their union they had two children: Thomas Carvel Pritchard and Maranda Elizabeth (Pritchard) Williams. Sarah E. (Hayes) Pritchard must have been killed in Missouri by bush-wackers because James A was widowed when he returned from the war.
James A. married 2nd: Mary Jane (Fox) Robertson, a Civil War widow with one daughter, Missouri Ann (Robertson) Hagood. James and Mary Jane married Jan 20, 1867 in Weatherford, Parker Co., TX. They put the families together and had 5 more children born to their union. They were: James Monroe, Joseph Edward, Henry Franklin, Albert Jay and Ida Bell (Pritchard) Durrett.
James and Mary Jane were farmers and he later worked for the Texas and Paciic Railroad. James A. died when their youngest child was just 7 years old leaving Mary Jane to finish raising these children.
