PAUL LUHN, KENNEY MUSICIAN, DIES

Paul Luhn, 84, who for three generations influenced and instructed musicians in this area, died at Brenham Rest Home Tuesday, August 10 at 11 p.m. He had been in failing health for two years.

A gifted musician, he began playing at the age of 12, and for 55 years performed with the fames Navratil Brass Band. He also had his own band, and played for countless dances throughout this section of Texas. A mild mannered man, he developed thousands of friends and acquaintances during his long life.

Funeral rites were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the Etlinger funeral chapel in Bellville, with the Rev. C. H. Rose officiating and with Etlinger directing. Interment was at Oak Knoll.

Named as pall bearers were Charles Brown, Paul Brown, Ervin Luhn, Roy Melnecke and Walter McNutt.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luhn, he was born at Kenney November 21, 1880. He attended school there, served as a public weigher for many years, and drove a school bus in late years. His marriage to Miss Annie Henske was solemnized at the Phillipsburg Lutheran Church December 5, 1906.

Mr. Luhn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bellville; and was also a member of W.O.W. and Sons of Hermann.

He was the last surviving member of a family of eight children, having been preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. Mrs. Luhn died June 15, 1960.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Charles Brown of Texas City; one son, Edgar Luhn of Fort Worth; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
