Burman Novea Grantham, 78, of Washington Avenue at 6th Street, S.E., Pulaski, died Saturday morning, July 12, 1997, in the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke after a long illness. He was born in Pulaski on April 20, 1919, and was the son of the late William Novea Grantham and Mary Jennings Grantham of Pulaski.

He was a member of Thornspring United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Medical Aidman in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a lifetime member of Pulaski V.F.W. Post #1184 and Pulaski American Legion Post #7, and a former member of Pulaski Bassmasters Club. He was a retired employee of R.A.A.P. with 33 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Helen Hurst Grantham of Pulaski; one daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Everett (''Sonny"") Alley of Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, Gale and Linda Grantham of Pulaski; a son and his fiancee, Douglas Grantham and Shirley Cochran of Radford; two granddaughters, Sabrina Conner and Angie Phillips of Dublin; three grandsons, David Alley of Salem, Todd Grantham of Lansing, Mich., and Tony Grantham of Pulaski; five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Jennifer Conner, Joshua and Ashley Burleson and Andrew Phillips, all of Dublin; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Peggy Grantham of Conroe, Texas, and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Isabelle and Pete Blankenship of Salem and Stella Anderson of Kingsport, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 1997, at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Pulaski, Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden s, Dublin, with Pulaski V.F.W. Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Sunday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mr. Grantham's grandsons and great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Music Fund, Pulaski, Va. 24301. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
