Edward was the ninth of ten children of William Whitman and Christiana Steckel Whitman.

He grew up in Tinicum Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania and was confirmed at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nockamixon Twp., Bucks Co. in 1885.

Edward was married to Emma Frederick Lowder about 1888.

They had fifteen children: Jacob Oliver in 1889, Cora Christiana in 1891, Estelle 'Stella' in 1893, John Edward in 1894, Charles in 1896, Mary Elizabeth in 1897, Ella Nora in 1899, Ellen F. in 1900, Anna in 1902, Jennie in 1904, Ethel in 1906, Carrie in 1908, Franklin Albert in 1910, William Henry in 1911 and George Elmer in 1917. Edward was a farmer all of his life, but he also worked as a boatman on the Delaware Canal. He resided in Nockamixon Twp. as an adult.

He had 26 known grandchildren and 60 known additional descendants as of early 2009. No doubt there are many more.

Edward shares a gravestone with seven other family members.

I would be more than happy to transfer this memorial to a descendant. Please click on my name, below, to email me.
