UPPER BLACK EDDY, PA -
William H. Whitman, 99, of Upper Black Eddy (Bridgeton Twp.), PA passed away on Saturday November 5, 2011 at Independance Court in Quakertown, PA

Born December 20, 1911 in Revere, PA, William lived in Upper Black Eddy for most of his life. He worked at the Riegel Paper Corp. in Milford, NJ for fifty years. He also worked as a boatman on the Delaware Canal at one time, as well as on his family's farm. William served as a Supervisor for Bridgeton Township, PA. He was a long time member of the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church and a member of the church's council. He was also a former member of the Upper Tinicum Cemetery Association. He enjoyed hunting.

Son of the late Edward and Emma Louder Whitman, William's beloved wife, Charlotte Mills Whitman, passed away in 2006. He is survived by his son Richard W. Whitman and his wife Betty of Upper Black Eddy, three daughters, Darlene W. Bittenmaster of Upper Black Eddy, Shirley A. Pursell and her husband James of Upper Black Eddy and Sharon Solomon and her husband John of Milford, NJ, fourteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Charles A. Whitman, his great grandson Chad Anderson, his son-in-law Frederick R. Bittenmaster III and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 10, 2011 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland Township, NJ. Interment will follow in Upper Tinicum Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 10 – 11 AM, prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church, PO Box 166, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972.
