Christiana was the youngest of eight known children of George Adam Steckley [sic.] and his wife Catharine Graessle of Evangelisch, Konigsbach, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.

Christiana was listed as having received communion at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ferndale (Nockamixon Twp.), Bucks Co. in 1845.

She was a housewife. She lived in Nockamixon Twp. and Tinicum Twp., Bucks Co., all of her adult life.

Christiana married William Whitman. They had ten children: Mary Ann in 1844, George S. in 1846, Francis in 1848, Elizabeth in 1850, William Nathan in 1853, John in 1859, Ella A. 'Ellen' in 1862, William S. in 1864, Edward S. in 1866 and Christiana 'Annie' in 1868.

Christiana had 49 grandchildren and 268 known additional descendants as of late 2007.

She died of asthma after an illness of three weeks.

Bucks Co. death records and St. Luke's church records state that Christiana was buried in Nockamixon, but they do not confirm whether she was buried in the old cemetery (St. Luke's) or the new cemetery (Nockamixon). There is no gravestone to help locate her more accurately. Most burials at this time were in Nockamixon, however. Thanks to Tom Myers for this information.
