LeRoy "Popeye" Kunz, 67, of Springfield died Wednesday at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Springfield, the son of William and Anna Boesderfer Kunz.

He married Joyce Richards in 1947.

He was employed at Sangamo Electric as a machine operator for 32 years and worked for the Springfield Street Department for 10 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1945-46.

Survivors: wife, Joyce; five sons, LeRoy "Butch" Kunz Jr. of Riverton, William "Bill' Kunz of Sherman and Steve, Dave and Randy Kunz, all of Springfield; two daughters, Sharry Hull and Jenna Kunz, both of Springfield; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, William Kunz of Springfield; two sisters, Florence Glassi and Maxine Richards, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home.

Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park.
