John J. Hawk, 70, Lafayette, died Nov. 18, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born June 29, 1929, in Lima to John Andrew and Lenna Hefner Hawk. On April 5, 1952, he married Lillian A. Carter, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1995. Survivors include two sons, William Allen Hawk and John Earl (Sue) Hawk, both of Lafayette; one daughter, Aleda K. Hawk of Beaverdam; three brothers, Dick Hawk of Lafayette, and Russ Hawk and Oliver Hawk, both of Lima; four sisters, Mary Barber and Mildred Servis, both of Beaverdam, Francis Tussing of Waynesfield, and Katherine Herron of Rockport; two grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Fitzgerald of Lima. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gayle Jean Hawk; one brother, Clifford Hawk; and five sisters, Helen Lawrence, Edith Hawk, Bertha Holt, Margaret Hawk and Dertha May Hawk. Mr. Hawk was a self-employed farmer and machine operator with Ford Motor Company retiring after 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He as a member of the FOE #370 and the Ada VFW #9381. Services were held Nov. 22 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Downey officiating. Burial was in Liberty Chapel Cemetery. Military rites were given by the Ada VFW #9381.
