Printed in the Houston Times Post dated February 11 1965 Sid Atkinson Dies at Age 86 Sid Evans Atkinson, former Chickasaw County supervisor, who name is on the cornerstone at the Houston courthouse, died at 4:35 am, Wednesday at the Houston Hospital following an illness of about a month. He was 86. The Houston courthouse, burned in the Civil War, and rebuilt in 1908, carries Mr. Atkinson's name on the cornerstone. He served from 1908-1911. A blood clot that developed following a fall claimed the life of the well known Chickasaw countian. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 pm, from the Wesley Chapel Church with the Rev. Doyle Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Russell will assist at the funeral services. Active pallbearers will be Ted Horn, Ed Duncan, Eldridge Smith, Herbert Miller, George Ausley. Mr. Atkinson, widely known by his many friends as "Mr. Sid", was born in Houston Sept. 28 1879 and had lived here all of his life. He was the son of the late Edmond Belcher Atkinson and Dora Malinda Brownlee Atkinson. He was a member of the Wesley chapel Methodist Church. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Jimmy Ada Waldrop Atkinson. He leaves five sons, Robert Atkinson of Houston, Dennis Atkinson of Pecos, Tex., Sid L Atkinson of Durham, NC, Edmond Atkinson of Enterprise, Ala., and Billy Atkinson of Jackson, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. James L Walker of Memphis, and Mrs. Lamar Turner of Houston. Ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
